PI day

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi and talk to their friends about math.

We are going to celebrate Pi Day by designing buildings and creating a skyline. Each number will be a different building.

Material:

- Colour cardboard DIN A4

- Newspaper, magazines, and other paper for the collage
- Scissors
- Glue

Building measures

- Width: 7 cm

- Heighth: Each student will be given one of the Pi numbers. This number will be multiplied by 3 cm and the result number will be the height.

Each student will decorate their building as their wish. It could be a house, a garage, a shop, a skyscraper, etc.

Día de los muertos

The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de los Muertos) is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. In 2008, the tradition was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.(Wikipedia)

Paper snowflakes

In nature, no two snowflakes are exactly the same. Try making different shape cut-outs to come up with your own unique snowflakes.

Below is a diagram of the six steps to make a paper snowflake

Start out with a square piece of paper. You can also use square coloured origami paper.
Fold the square diagonally in half.
Fold the resulting triangle along the middle to come up with a smaller triangle.
The most crucial and perhaps the trickiest step in making a paper snowflake is dividing the triangle into three equal sections. The most accurate way to do this is to use a protractor to divide the angle at the triangle's apex (the corner opposite the longest side) into three sections, each with a 30-degree angle. If you don't have a protractor, you can estimate the size of the sections as you do Steps 5 and 6.
Once you've marked out the three equal sections, fold the left section towards the front. Similarly fold the right section towards the front. Flip the entire shape over so that the side with the horizontal edge is facing front. Then, cut along the horizontal edge so that you come up with a wedge.
While keeping the wedge folded, cut out random shapes out of the edges.

Sant Jordi/ Book Day.

    Saint George Day commemorates this Saint's supposed death on the 23 April 303. In addition, he is the patron saint of countries such as Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Georgia, England or Portugal, and cities such as Timbuktu (Mali).

    In Spain it is the autonomous communities of Aragon, Catalonia and Balearic Islands, as well as the towns of Alcoy (Alicante), Cáceres, Golosalvo Burrows (these last two in the province of Albacete), Lucena (Córdoba) and Santurce (Vizcaya).

    Due to the fact that in 1995 the UNESCO proclaimed through on April 23 as World Book Day coinciding with the day of the commemoration of the Holy, in regions such as Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, there is a popular tradition that combines both commemorations through the exchanges of gifts of Red Roses (St. George) and books (book day).

   Students will create their own bookmark. They can decide which character /object they want to draw (Saint George, the Princess, the dragon or the rose)

Sant Antoni

    The festival of Sant Antoni Abad (Saint Anthony Abbot) is the most popular and vibrant, which is celebrated between January 16 and 17 in many Majorcan villages.
    The festival starts on 16 January at dusk, when the street bonfires are lit. It´s the Sant Antoni´s Eve, the Patron Saint of domestic animals, and one of the most magical nights in Mallorca when former fertility rituals were held. The ritual remembers all temptations this saint had to overcome in the desert.
    On this night locals eat sobrassada (Mallorcan sausage meat) cooked on embers in the street, as well as other types of sausage meats and traditional local foods; there is also plenty of wine. The demons wander from bonfire to bonfire, performing their special dance. The festival gets under way with traditional folk songs, which remind locals of the saint´s heroic deeds; however, there are also some saucier songs, and it these which are really popular.
    On 17 january there are processions that represent traditional scenes from Mallorcan rural life; in addition to this, pets are blessed and the demons chase the figure of Sant Antoni, with children playing an essential part in the festival.
