Online since 1 November 1999, the Comiclopedia is the world's largest overview of comic artists, and the brainchild of comic shop Lambiek's founder Kees Kousemaker (1942-2010). Kees was at the vanguard of promoting comics as art, and both the Lambiek store and the website are continuing in his spirit. The editors of the Comiclopedia are Bas Schuddeboom and Kjell Knudde.

Onomatopeia project

Onomatopoeia. Is an enviromental sound presented without ballons, in bold or 3D text in upper case. Sometimes it has exclamations points. This is a method of drawing attention to text, it often highlights onomatopeia and reinforces the impact of words such as Bang or Wow.

To explain this exercise it is interesting to look at some artworks by the Pop Artist Roy Lichtenstein.

Watch the following tutorial: Drawing an onomatopeya.

  • Through the 17th and 18th centuries, prints began to tackle aspects of political and social life, and also started to satirize and caricature.
  • In 1845, the satirical drawings, which regularly appeared in newspapers and magazines, gained a name: cartoons. The newspaper comics served as further entertainment for mass readership.
